The Source

American Hardwoods is committed to only sourcing timbers from sustainably managed sources from within Australia and overseas.

We have partnered with the following Environmental Certification and Forest product programs to go through a comprehensive process of Due Diligence on all our accredited Overseas suppliers, to ensure that our values are recognised throughout the Chain of Custody process.

FSC

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification is internationally recognised as the most rigorous environmental and social standard for responsible forest management. FSC Australia is a national office of FSC International that ensures the use of this trusted trademark is properly enforced in Australia. To maintain independence, FSC-accredited auditors carry out the actual certification.

PEFC

PEFC

The Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) is the world’s largest forest certification system. PEFC is an umbrella organization that works by endorsing national forest certification systems developed through multi-stakeholder processes and tailored to local priorities and conditions. The Australian arm of PEFC has recently changed its name from the Australian Forestry Standard Ltd to Responsible Wood.

Responsible Wood ®

The Australian Arm of the PEFC network, Responsible Wood is a not for profit organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. Certifying over 24 million hectares of forest within Australia, Responsible Wood offers certification on uniquely Australian timber species such as Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Tas Oak and Vic Ash.

AHEP

The American Hardwood Enviromental Profile (AHEP) has been developed by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) as an on-line system to allow U.S hardwood exporters to provide a comprehensive American Hardwood Enviromental Profile (AHEP) with every individual consignment of product delivered to any market in the world. Each AHEP provides access to information on the risk of illegality and the sustainability of the U.S. hardwood species contained in that consignment, together with quantitative data on the environmental impacts associated with delivering that consignment to an individual customer anywhere in the world.
